U.S. President Donald Trump joked again this Friday at the White House Correspondents' Dinner about the possibility of running in the 2028 presidential election and put on a red hat with the year 2028 on the front.

"I want to announce my intention to run for a fourth term as president. I won three times and I will do it again," said Trump before putting on one of the hats characteristic of his election campaigns, this time with the number 2028, in a joke he has repeated at least twice this week during public appearances.

Trump sarcastically alludes to a possible fourth term, as he has never acknowledged his loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 election and has repeatedly alleged supposed election fraud for which there is no evidence.

The joke was the climax of a speech lasting over 70 minutes delivered by the Republican during the repeat of the White House Correspondents' Dinner, held this time at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington, which previously belonged to the Trump family, instead of the Washington Hilton, the traditional venue for the gala.

Attendance at the event, repeated tonight after the attack on April 26, was also reduced considerably, from about 2,600 guests to approximately 700, while the Secret Service reinforced the security detail and limited access to the venue, where all attendees had to present a QR code to enter.

Trump, 80, cannot run in the 2028 election, as the United States Constitution limits presidential terms to two, and the Republican is in his second term after having served from 2017 to 2021.

The president often jokes about the possibility of running again and frequently claims that many supporters of the MAGA ("Make America Great Again") movement, which he leads, ask him to continue in office beyond 2029.

He has also mentioned on several occasions that he could be succeeded by U.S. Vice President JD Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio, both of whom are considered potential contenders for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028.
