Pati Chapoy lashed out at Irán del Castillo after the Mexican actress rejected an interview for Ventaneando regarding the sentencing of the members of the criminal group that kidnapped her in 2015.
The host asserted that the TV Azteca program is not about gossip, as Castillo described it, but about information. Furthermore, she felt that the actress did not know how to distinguish between one program and another.
"My dear Irán, this program is not about gossip, it is about information... It is good news and all we wanted to do was this outreach. If you think this type of program is different from another, well, I feel sorry for you, that means you have never turned on the television in your life to tell the difference between one program and another," Chapoy stated.
However, one of the statements that drew the most attention from internet users was the message the host directed at Castillo regarding her kidnapping.
“It's a good thing those guys have been sentenced, and we hope with all our heart that it doesn't happen to you again,” she commented.
What did Irán Castillo say about Ventaneando and why did she reject the interview?
On Tuesday, October 13, Ventaneando published a video in which Irán Castillo rejected an interview with one of their reporters upon finding out what program it was for.
Although the reporter insisted that the interview would be respectful and address an official topic, the actress maintained her refusal and explained that she did not like gossip shows.
"Ventaneando no... It’s just pure gossip and such... I’m not into that gossip stuff, honestly... I say this with great respect, but yeah, I don't like it," she expressed.
What happened with Irán Castillo's kidnapping? Nine people sentenced
In a statement released on October 8, 2026, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) reported that nine people involved in Irán Castillo's case were sentenced to up to 165 years in prison and fines of up to 863,742 pesos.
The actress, who remained deprived of her liberty for three days in 2015, had previously recounted that she was not the specific target of the kidnapping gang.
According to her account, the members of the criminal group followed women traveling alone and caused car accidents to kidnap them.
Likewise, Castillo claimed she suffered from Stockholm syndrome, explaining that, since she was not physically assaulted by her captors, she began to feel empathy toward them. For this reason, she initially refused to cooperate with the authorities.
The actress also revealed that Gloria Trevi and her husband, Armando Gómez, contributed part of the money used to pay her ransom.
