A new controversy has ignited social media. After basketball player Tyler Kolek called Taylor Swift the "fakest" celebrity Knicks fan and received a wave of criticism from Swifties, the team reacted to his statements.
Through a spokesperson, the Knicks expressed their gratitude for the support they have received from the You Belong With Me singer over the years.
"Taylor Swift has been a fan of the Knicks for many years, has a long history with Madison Square Garden, and we are extremely grateful for her support of the organization," the spokesperson said in a statement.

What did Tyler Kolek say about Taylor Swift?
During a TikTok live stream for the NBA 2K League channel, Kolek and his teammate Miles "Deuce" McBride were asked who they considered to be the "fakest" celebrity Knicks fan.
When asked, Kolek named Taylor Swift and questioned whether she was truly a fan of the team.
"They just want to be seen at the game; it’s not that they’re necessarily fans... Maybe Taylor Swift. I don’t know if I’ve seen her at any other games. I’m going to get bashed by the Swifties... I guess she has a lot of stuff going on, so she can’t always come. But it feels a bit like a performance," Kolek noted.
For his part, McBride said he agreed with his teammate and added that "the Swifties are not going to like that answer."
Additionally, McBride mentioned that celebrities like Ben Stiller and Tracy Morgan are regular attendees at the games.

On X, Swifties criticized Kolek’s statements and reminded him that Taylor Swift has been a Knicks fan for years, even before both players joined the team.
Some users questioned why players who have spent time on the bench, like Kolek, would share opinions about the singer. Others claimed the basketball player was just looking for his fifteen minutes of fame by mentioning the All Too Well singer.
