Designer Valentino Garavani, an icon of haute couture and founder of the Valentino fashion house, has died at age 93.
"Nuestro fundador, Valentino Garavani, falleció hoy en su residencia romana, rodeado de sus seres queridos", señala el escueto comunicado de la Fundación Valentino Garavani y Giancarlo Giammetti, publicado en sus redes sociales.
La nota indicó que el velatorio tendrá lugar en Roma los próximos miércoles y jueves, y el funeral el viernes en la Basílica de Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri Roma, a las 11:00
¿Quién es Valentino Garavani?
Valentino Garavani fue uno de los diseñadores más influyentes y elegantes de la moda del siglo XX y principios del XXI.
Born in Voghera, Italy, in 1932, he built a career marked by luxury, sophistication, and an unmistakable aesthetic that turned his surname into a synonym for haute couture.
In 1960, he founded the Valentino house in Rome, from where he began dressing the international elite and consolidating his prestige in the world's main fashion capitals.
His first haute couture collection was presented in 1962 at the Pitti Palace in Florence.
Known worldwide for the iconic “Valentino red,” the designer created a style based on clean lines, classic femininity, and timeless glamour.
His designs were regulars on red carpets, royal galas, and state events, dressing figures such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and more recently, celebrities and members of European royal houses.
Throughout his career, Valentino received numerous awards for his contribution to Italian fashion and culture.
He officially retired in 2008, leaving a creative legacy that remains relevant through the Valentino brand, which is today one of the most influential luxury fashion houses in the world.
