A petition published on Change.org and widely shared on social media seeks a replay of the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the Spanish national team. The signatories claim that the refereeing decisions were "rigged" and accuse the referee of favoring the Spanish team.
The initiative, promoted by Argentine fans, currently has more than 60 thousand signatures.

Since the 2026 World Cup final was played last Sunday, July 19, part of the Argentine fan base has expressed their dissatisfaction with the match result on social media. In response, some followers started a campaign on Change.org to collect signatures and request that the final be played again.
"Signatures are being collected so that the final is replayed... and yes, you might tell me it's crazy, that it's useless, but great revolutions always started with a few," said an Argentine fan in a video.
And added:
"Everyone can contribute their grain of sand. This is not a whim. It is not that we are sore losers either. We have to make noise because when the people manage to bother those at the top, it is possible to achieve justice. God does not want us to be spectators of life while they take advantage of us, He wants us to fight out of love for justice."

The petition, created by Gisela Sánchez, maintains that the final between Spain and Argentina "was marred by the controversial and corrupt performance of the referee," Slovenian Slavko Vinčić. It also claims that the referee was "bought to influence the outcome of the match."
According to the petition, "several videos are circulating on social media showing the referee's decisions that clearly favored one team over another, altering the natural course of the match."
Therefore, with the signatures, they request that FIFA "review these incidents with seriousness and transparency, and that it considers replaying the final, this time without the influence of a corrupt referee."
"It is crucial that an impartial and fair referee enters so that the result truly reflects the merit of the participating teams," the petition adds.

Although the petition on Change.org continues to gain signatures, it is very unlikely that the 2026 World Cup final will be replayed.
In addition to the result reflected in the match statistics, FIFA regulations state that a match can only be replayed when there is a deliberate and serious violation of the competition rules that has affected the development of the game, such as an ineligible player or exceptional disciplinary situations, according to Récord and Mercado magazine.
For the moment, FIFA has not announced an investigation into the refereeing of the final nor has it issued a statement regarding the petition published on Change.org.
