Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez surprised the boxing world by speaking about the end of his successful professional career. The Mexican champion acknowledged that retirement is getting closer and confessed that he already has an idea of how many fights he would like to have before hanging up his gloves. "I don't have much left," the boxer from Jalisco revealed.
Since his professional debut, Canelo Álvarez has built a career that made him one of the best boxers of his generation. Among his main achievements are having been a world champion in four different weight classes, as well as being the undisputed super middleweight champion.
And not only that, but he is considered one of the Mexican athletes with the highest earnings and international recognition. Thanks to these successes, Canelo's name is considered one of the most important in the history of national sports.

In an interview for CBS Mornings, Saúl Álvarez said that he does not have "much" left to accomplish in boxing, but at 36 years old, he continues to do it for his passion. "Every time I fight, I break a record, and that is my motivation," he mentioned.
Although he still feels "good," Álvarez commented that he has other things he wants to achieve outside of sports and that he will know when the time to retire comes. "When I am in the gym and I take a lot of punches and my body doesn't respond in the same way, then I know," he recounted.
Likewise, he admitted that if there were any way to convince Crawford, who retired last year, to return to the ring, he would be open to a rematch. "As fighters, we are always looking for the rematch (...) I always do well in a rematch. I know what I did wrong. So yes, if the opportunity arises, it would be incredible," he added.

On the other hand, in a conversation with Ariel Helwani on The Ariel Helwani Show, the former super middleweight champion expressed that it is likely his own boxing career will come to an end after three or four fights.
He stressed that he has goals outside the boxing sphere, including his business objectives: "I don't do it because I earn a lot of money. Because I think I still enjoy boxing. I love boxing. But I have nothing left to prove. Because I have already done everything. I achieved practically everything in boxing. I still enjoy it. But maybe I have three or four more fights left. Because I have other goals... My business," he concluded.
That is how the world champion explained that, although he continues to enjoy boxing, he is aware of the physical toll it takes to remain at the elite level and that he has begun to think seriously about the moment to say goodbye to the ring.

So far, Canelo has not announced an official date for his retirement. However, considering the number of fights he plans to have and his usual schedule, his farewell could happen in the next few years, provided his sporting plans do not change.
