The United States has 11 federal holidays, which are considered days of rest for workers, and students do not attend classes.
US law stipulates that federal holidays are non-working days and are paid normally for full-time or part-time employees. Additionally, those who cannot enjoy the holiday due to their duties and schedules will have the right to take another day in lieu.

The last Monday of May honors military personnel who lost their lives defending the United States. The US Embassy notes that Memorial Day “was originally a day for placing flowers and flags on the graves of those who died during the Civil War, then it changed to honor all those who died in subsequent wars”.
Viernes 19 de junio: Juneteenth
It is a day to reflect on the date in 1865 when the last enslaved Black people learned they were free.
"This is a day of profound weight and profound power, a day in which we remember the moral stain and the terrible price that slavery has cost the country and continues to cost. What I have long called America's original sin," said Joe Biden when declaring it a holiday.
Sábado 4 de julio: Día de la Independencia
On July 4th, Americans celebrate achieving independence from the British Empire in 1776.
Families organize outdoor meals, parades are held, and there are firework displays. As it is a holiday, Americans also plan trips to the beach or lakes.
Lunes 7 de septiembre: Día del Trabajo
It is a date to pay tribute to the contributions of American workers and their constant struggle for labor achievements.
The holiday originated in the late 19th century and it was in 1894 that it became an official holiday. It is currently a date that also marks the end of summer and the beginning of the school season.
Lunes 12 de octubre: Día de Colón y Día de los Pueblos Indígenas
While in Latin America it is known as Día de la Raza, in the United States it is called Columbus Day, in reference to Christopher Columbus, and commemorates the date the navigator arrived in the Americas in 1492.
Although it is still celebrated in some regions of the country, others have spoken out against commemorating the date and have proposed alternative holidays, such as Indigenous Peoples' Day, which was first officially celebrated in 2021.
Miércoles 11 de noviembre: Día de los Veteranos
The date is dedicated to thanking all those who served in the US military during times of war or peace.
Living veterans are honored for their contribution to national security.
Jueves 26 de noviembre: Día de Acción de Gracias
Thanksgiving Day is the most important holiday for Americans. On the fourth Thursday of November, families gather to give thanks for the freedom they enjoy, their homes, and their food.
Modern Thanksgiving Day commemorates the harvest feast shared by Native Americans and pilgrims in 1621, after the English who sailed on the Mayflower founded the Plymouth colony in Massachusetts.
Viernes 25 de diciembre: Navidad
The Christian and Catholic community celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25th; they consider him the son of God. Celebrating on this date became a tradition, as the Bible does not mention an exact date for Jesus' birth.
