The United States Armed Forces have deployed ground-based air defense systems at the Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach County (Florida), where the residence of President Donald Trump is located, and in its immediate vicinity, according to images broadcast by local media.

The missile systems are located on board several barges near Mar-a-Lago, as well as at the Palm Beach International Airport, which was renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport last July, reported the WPTV channel.

This deployment was carried out by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the United States Northern Command (NORTHCOM) "at the request of the United States Secret Service," explained the spokesperson for both institutions to the aforementioned outlet.

However, the spokesperson did not clarify whether the measure is a response to a specific threat against the president, who travels to his Florida residence on some weekends.

Mar-a-Lago has remained under a strict security apparatus since the thwarted assassination attempt against Trump that occurred in September 2024 at his Palm Beach golf club, after which federal authorities reinforced the president's protection measures.

According to WPTV, since January 2025, when Trump took office, fighter pilots have intercepted more than 60 aircraft that violated temporary flight restrictions around Palm Beach.

Trump is currently in South Carolina to headline another campaign rally, less than a week before the midterm elections, in which the Republican Party could lose its majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate, which would limit the president's power.

Trump has another campaign event scheduled this Friday in Daytona Beach, Florida, about 300 kilometers from Palm Beach. EFE
