American comedian Jimmy Kimmel called U.S. President Donald Trump a "sick and irresponsible man" following his attack on filmmaker Rob Reiner, who passed away last weekend, in a post regarding condolences on his social network, Truth.

Kimmel opened the monologue of his late-night show 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' by taking stock of the current news, mentioning, in addition to the attacks in Sydney, the alleged murders of Reiner and his wife Michele at their home in Brentwood, in Los Angeles County.

"What we need at a time like this, in addition to common sense regarding guns and mental health, is compassion and leadership," warned the comedian.

"We didn't get that from our president because he has nothing to give. Instead, we had a fool rambling about nonsense, we had a brief moment of respect for our friends in Australia, we had a brief moment of condolence followed by a 'something happened' for the Brown students and for Rob and Michele Reiner," he added.

The comedian referred to the message of condolences that the Republican president sent for the death of Reiner, whom he accused of maintaining a sick obsession against him.

The president attributed the crime to "the anger he provoked in others due to his huge, stubborn and incurable affliction with a mentally paralyzing disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome."

Rob Reiner and his wife, producer and photographer Michele Reiner, were found dead on Sunday at their home in the wealthy town of Brentwood, where, according to initial indications leaked to the press, they were slashed to death by one of their sons.

The couple's middle son, Nick, was arrested and booked on murder charges, and although the motives that could have led him to commit the crime are currently unknown, close associates claim there was a family argument at a Christmas party at comedian Conan O'Brien's house, according to the Los Angeles Times.
