The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) published the 2026-2027 school calendar in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), which establishes the start of classes for August 31, 2026, and the end of the school year for July 9, 2027, for preschool, primary, and secondary students.
The new calendar includes 185 effective school days for public and private schools incorporated into the National Educational System, in addition to dates for long weekends due to the School Technical Council, vacations, holidays, and official suspension of teaching duties.
¿Cuándo inician y terminan las clases del ciclo escolar 2026-2027?
According to the school calendar published by the SEP in the DOF:
- Inicio de clases: 31 de agosto de 2026.
- Fin del ciclo escolar: 9 de julio de 2027.
For normal schools and other teacher training institutions, the calendar will be 190 days, concluding activities on July 13, 2027.

One of the most consulted aspects by mothers, fathers, and students is the long weekends for the School Technical Council, since classes are suspended during those dates.
The ordinary sessions will be:

- 26 de febrero de 2027

Días de suspensión de clases oficiales
In addition to the Technical Councils, the calendar includes class suspensions on the following dates:
- 16 de septiembre de 2026
- 2 de noviembre de 2026
- 16 de noviembre de 2026
- 1 de febrero de 2027
- 15 de marzo de 2027
- 5 de mayo de 2027
These dates correspond to holidays and official commemorations contemplated by the SEP.

The school calendar also establishes the two main vacation periods of the cycle.
Winter break
- Del 21 de diciembre de 2026 al 8 de enero de 2027.
Easter break
- Del 22 de marzo al 2 de abril de 2027.

The SEP reported that pre-registrations for preschool, first grade of primary, and first grade of secondary school will take place from February 2 to February 13, 2027.

Evaluation report cards will be delivered in three periods:
- Del 23 al 26 de noviembre de 2026.
- Del 22 al 25 de marzo de 2027.
- 12 y 13 de julio de 2027.

The SEP highlighted that the 2026-2027 school year maintains an additional week of recess during August for teachers, as part of the Federal Government's commitment to the teaching profession.
With the publication of the 2026-2027 school calendar in the DOF, students, parents, and teachers can now consult all dates for long weekends due to School Technical Council, class suspensions, vacations, and official activities to plan the next school year.
