A tropical depression formed offshore, off the coast of Mexico, and could strengthen into a hurricane this week, the U.S. National Hurricane Center reported on Tuesday.
The tropical depression is located about 901.23 kilometers (560 miles) south of the southern tip of Baja California. It has maximum sustained winds of 56 km/h (35 mph) and is moving westward at 29 km/h (18 mph).
The phenomenon is expected to strengthen steadily and could become a hurricane by Thursday night.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
