This Wednesday, August 26, two earthquakes greater than 4 degrees were recorded, according to reports from the National Seismological Service (SSN), one located south of Sayula de Alemán, Veracruz, and another southwest of Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas.
According to SSN reports, the earthquake recorded in Veracruz had a magnitude of 4.1, while the movement located off the coast of the Chiapas area reached a magnitude of 4.3.

Where was the earthquake in Veracruz today?
The SSN reported a magnitude 4.1 earthquake located 52 kilometers south of Sayula de Alemán, Veracruz.
The movement occurred at 14:10:37 hours on August 26, 2026, according to the seismic report.
The epicenter was located at coordinates 17.41 latitude and -94.89 longitude, with a depth of 135 kilometers.
Due to its location and depth, this is a different movement than the one recorded hours earlier in the region near Chiapas.
Where did the earthquake in Chiapas occur?
The second movement reported by the SSN had a magnitude of 4.3 and was located 148 kilometers southwest of Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas.
The earthquake occurred at 13:53:56 hours, with coordinates of 14.01 latitude and -93.34 longitude.
Unlike the movement recorded in Veracruz, this tremor had a depth of 16 kilometers, which is why it is considered a relatively shallow earthquake.
So far, no damage or injuries have been reported following the earthquakes. The seismic alert was not activated in Mexico City because the intensity of the telluric movements did not exceed the threshold.
