The historic Mexican band Los Tigres del Norte made their debut this Thursday on Tiny Desk, the popular musical format from U.S. radio station NPR, with a message in favor of migrants a few weeks before the midterm legislative elections in the United States.
"Our community is under attack and it's not the first time. They take our humanity away from us. Since we can remember, these gentlemen have given us back that humanity. So it is a great honor to have them here," producer Felix Contreras commented emotionally while introducing the group.
The band opened the session with "Somos más americanos," one of their anthems in support of migrants in the United States. "We are more American than all those gringos," vocalist Jorge Hernandez recited as he started the show in front of the famous NPR desk that serves as the stage.

The singer was accompanied by the rest of the group, which includes accordion, bass, and drums: Hernan Hernandez, Eduardo Hernandez, Luis Hernandez, Oscar Lara, Giovanni Hernandez, and Juan Salazar.
Throughout more than 20 minutes of performance, Los Tigres del Norte also chose to showcase tracks like "Golpes en el corazón," "Quiero volar contigo," "Ni parientes somos," and "La puerta negra" to the American audience.
The performance is part of a special NPR lineup for Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, which began on September 15 and ends precisely this Thursday.

The group, which has accumulated more than 2.3 million followers on Instagram, has over 200,000 "likes" on the Tiny Desk post on that social network and nearly 150,000 on YouTube.
Los Tigres del Norte have a political component inherent in the themes of their songs, linked to the defense of Hispanic migrants in the United States, which led them to participate in a Kamala Harris presidential campaign rally in 2024.
The first Tiny Desk was recorded in 2008 with singer-songwriter Laura Gibson and, over the years, has become one of the most prestigious musical stages in the world, hosting artists such as Coldplay, U2, Bad Bunny, Adele, or Karol G.
