American actor Tom Cruise steps into the shoes of an eccentric oil tycoon in 'Digger', his first collaboration with Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu and the "most original and moving" film he has ever seen, according to his comments this Tuesday during the world premiere of the film in London.
The 64-year-old performer was the main star of the event, which transformed London's Leicester Square into a massive set on Tuesday, featuring a large portion of the main cast.

Cruise was the first to arrive on the red carpet, dressed in a tuxedo paired with cowboy-style boots, and spent nearly two hours speaking with his fans before addressing the press in attendance, including EFE.
Cruise stated that, since the beginning of his filmography, he has taken on a wide range of characters and genres, but nothing like his role in 'Digger'.
"This is, without a doubt, the most original film I have seen, that I have read, and one of the most moving I have ever witnessed," the actor assured.
In the guise of the tycoon Digger Rockwell, Cruise appears unrecognizable, aged with prosthetics and sporting a comedic—and vulgar—register, far from his usual action hero roles.
For the actor, it is a "privilege" to have been able to bring such a character to the screen, as he claims to be very conscious when choosing his roles and is always looking to learn new skills and different interpretative fields to then implement them in his films.
"If you look at the technique, in terms of flying planes, or dance or music, I am constantly studying these things: architecture, art, history... you know, and I apply all those things to every film, and sometimes it takes years," Cruise reflected.
Precisely, 'Digger', which will reach Spanish theaters on October 2nd, is the result of seven years of joint work between Cruise and Iñárritu, whom he defines as a "one-of-a-kind" filmmaker.
Human power and ambition
The film premieres surrounded by immense secrecy, with only minimal details of the plot revealed, as the Mexican director explained to EFE that it is a movie made for people to see in theaters and discover for themselves.
"It is very difficult to say what it is about without ruining the experience," the Mexican director asserted.
Even so, he ventures to say that 'Digger' speaks about narrative; about how human power and ambition are "a very terrifying and funny thing at the same time."
Furthermore, it places the audience in front of a satirical mirror with political undertones regarding the current state of the world: "When we started, the world was very different... and reality caught up with us. That was the challenge," commented Iñárritu.
The filmmaker returns after a four-year hiatus since 'Bardo' (2022) and does so surrounded by great talent.
In addition to Cruise, the cast is completed by names such as German actress Sandra Hüller ('Anatomy of a Fall'), Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, and Michael Stuhlbarg, among others.
Hüller, who is experiencing one of the sweetest moments of her career, confessed to EFE that she agreed to join 'Digger' because she "admired" the Mexican filmmaker's work.
"I met him, we had a wonderful conversation. I felt he was someone I could trust and someone I wanted to surround myself with. He has a great vision and all the tools to make a good movie. So I wanted to discover how he worked."
The world premiere of 'Digger' was framed within the so-called 'Royal Film Performance', a charity event sponsored by the British Royal Family, and featured the special presence of the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine. EFE
