Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro, who finished third in the Tour de France, felt very satisfied with his performance in his debut at the French grand tour, but he refused to label himself as the successor to Slovenian Tadej Pogacar: "If I achieve 1% of what he has accomplished, I would already be satisfied," he said.
"It's incredible; I feel privileged to be on this team. It is amazing to be in this position," noted the UAE rider, a teammate of Pogacar, who secured his fifth Tour victory this Sunday.
"We are great teammates. He has brought out the best in me over these last few years, and this last week at the Tour, he has helped me a lot," he said.
Regarding the question of whether he feels he is Pogacar's successor, he stated: "It is hard to know how the future will go; we will see. It is a great responsibility; you have to enjoy life and give your best. If I achieve 1% of what he has, I can be very satisfied."
Del Toro expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from the Mexican public throughout the entire race: "I know how privileged I am; I am very grateful for everything I receive."
