On July 30, NSW Athletics and the Sutherland District Athletics Club reported the passing of Australian athlete Natasha Ward at the age of 21.
The news shocked the sports world. On social media, many mourned the loss of the young runner, who was considered one of the up-and-coming prospects in Australian athletics.

Natasha Ward was an Australian middle-distance runner who stood out for her achievements in national competitions. Among her accomplishments is a bronze medal in the 800-meter event at the UniSport National Championships, held in April of this year.
According to various sources, throughout her career, she competed in the 400, 800, and 1,500-meter events. Additionally, she ran alongside renowned Australian athletes Morgan Mitchell and Claudia Hollingsworth during the 2024 Australian Championships.
In addition to being an athlete, Ward was also studying Exercise and Sports Science at Macquarie University in Sydney.

On July 30, NSW Athletics and the Sutherland District Athletics Club announced the news of her passing through a joint statement.
"It is with deep sadness that we inform the New South Wales and Australian athletics community of the passing of our beloved athlete Natasha Ward," the statement reads.
Both organizations highlighted her achievements, as well as her warm nature, which made her a highly valued member of the athletics community.
"Beyond her achievements on the track, Natasha was a much-loved member of our community. Her kindness and joy touched everyone who was lucky enough to know her, and her magnetic smile and warm personality have left an indelible mark on Australian athletics. Natasha's enthusiasm and determination inspired her training partners," the statement continues.

No further details regarding the circumstances of her death have been released.
