For Mexican senior citizens who wish to travel to the United States for tourism, the process for the B1/B2 US visa follows virtually the same rules as for any other applicant. One of the most frequent questions is whether there is any special discount for people over 60, especially for those who have an INAPAM credential. Unfortunately, no. There are no discounts.
The National Institute of Older Adults (INAPAM) is a Mexican government agency in charge of promoting the well-being, inclusion, and rights of people 60 years of age or older. Through agreements with companies and state and municipal governments, it offers discounts in sectors such as transportation, health, food, culture, water, property tax, and other services.
These discounts exist because INAPAM signs agreements with service providers and businesses that decide to grant financial benefits to senior citizens as a social and economic support measure.
No. The INAPAM credential does not grant discounts for applying for a US tourist visa. The fee must be paid in full, regardless of the applicant's age. Currently, the application fee for visitor visas for business or tourism (B1/B2) is 185 dollars, an amount that is mandatory, non-refundable, and non-transferable.
The reason is that immigration fees are established by the US Department of State and are applied uniformly to applicants, except for very specific cases covered by US law. INAPAM benefits are only valid at participating establishments and institutions within the program's agreements.
Although there are no financial discounts based on age, there may be facilitations under certain circumstances.
For example, if the applicant suffers from a disability or an illness that prevents them from attending in person, this situation should be noted while filling out the application. Consular officers may determine if any special consideration is appropriate, although the final decision rests exclusively with the US immigration authority.
Likewise, consular officers retain the authority to request or waive interviews on a case-by-case basis. Even when a person might be a candidate for an exemption, the consulate may require an in-person interview if it deems it necessary.
Senior citizens applying for a tourist visa for the first time must follow the same steps as any other adult:
Fill out the DS-160 form on the official Department of State portal.
Create an account in the official appointment system to track the application.
Pay the 185-dollar fee corresponding to the visa application.
Go to the Applicant Service Center (CAS) for your photograph and biometric fingerprints.
Attend the consular interview when required.
Wait for the decision and, if approved, receive the visa through the delivery system established by US authorities.
To renew an expired visa, the procedure also requires completing a new DS-160 form, scheduling the corresponding appointment, paying the current fee, and following the instructions in the official system. Depending on the case, some applicants may be eligible for simplified processes or interview waivers.
Senior citizens can apply for or renew their US tourist visa under the same conditions as all other applicants.
