The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, admitted there was a prior relationship, which he described as "commercial," between Jonathan Meléndez, a musician for Camilo Séptimo, and the alleged perpetrator of the mass homicide recorded on September 1 in the central State of Mexico.
"He had a commercial relationship, so to speak, or a certain partnership with the head of the family (Meléndez)," stated García Harfuch during the presidential press conference held this Friday in Zacatecas.
The official confirmed that before the crime, there was also a demand for money and threats against Meléndez.

"What is a fact is that he was demanding money; there was a demand, there were certain threats, and this regrettable mass murder was committed," he maintained.
García Harfuch noted that he does not know the amount claimed and clarified that the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico (Fgjem) requested that part of the information regarding this case be withheld until the first hearing so as not to affect the judicial process.
He also explained that federal authorities were in communication with the state prosecutor, José Luis Cervantes, and the state Secretary of Security, Pablo Vázquez, and highlighted that the suspects were captured in less than 12 hours.
The secretary assured that the main person responsible identified by the investigations is in custody and that another person allegedly collaborated with him, although the Prosecutor's Office continues to exhaust all leads to determine if more people participated.
He also indicated that the main suspect may have a criminal record, but referred to the Prosecutor's Office to clarify that information.
The mass murder occurred on September 1 in an apartment in Atizapán de Zaragoza, on the outskirts of Mexico City.
Meléndez, 38, was murdered along with his pregnant wife, his three-year-old daughter, and a housekeeper, while one of the musician's children, a six-year-old, was found alive.
Authorities arrested Diego Sebastián "N", identified by the Prosecutor's Office as the musician's business partner and probable author of the crime, and Gerardo "N", cited for his possible participation.
For her part, the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, explained that the Government of the State of Mexico is leading the care for the family members through the state commission for victims, the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF), and the Office for the Protection of Minors.
"There is outreach to the family, and the dialogue will continue to provide all the support that is required," stated Rodríguez.
Rodríguez added that the federal government also maintains contact with state authorities and is willing to intervene if necessary, per the instruction of President Claudia Sheinbaum, who offered federal assistance on Thursday. EFE
