The Pope Leo XIV arrived at the Gemelli hospital in Rome to undergo surgery to remove a nodule located in his lung. Amid concerns about his health, a Mexican film has resurfaced on the internet that allegedly predicts his passing.
Internet users have linked the pontiff's hospitalization to the 2017 horror film The Inhabitant, available on Netflix, but why? It is said that the film anticipates there would be a pope, named Leo XIV, who would die from a lung condition.
The scene appears in the first few minutes of the film, when the news reports the death of Supreme Pontiff Leo XIV, who died from “septicemia and an irreversible cardiopulmonary collapse for which he had been admitted last week”.
This news was delivered by the fictional character Monsignor Leonardo Vieri to the congregation in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican. According to the news report, after the death of Leo XIV, the cardinals would meet in the papal conclave to choose a successor.

Beyond the lung condition in both cases, it has been commented on social media that there is a strange coincidence with the name that the pope, whose real name is Robert Prevost, chose when he was elected as the successor to Francis in May 2025.
Why did the director of The Inhabitant, Guillermo Amoedo, choose the name Leo XIV?
In an interview he gave to Clarín, the Uruguayan producer revealed that he formulated the name while writing the script, basing it on “ancient prophecies like those of Saint Malachy and Saint Hildegard of Bingen, along with other apocryphal theories, and also the history of antipopes”.
What is the movie ‘The Inhabitant’ about?
The Inhabitant is a Mexican horror film that follows three sisters who break into the house of a corrupt politician, thinking it will be easy, but the situation spirals out of control when they find a girl chained in the basement and attempt to free her.
What seemed like a kidnapping case actually has a darker, deeper, and more terrifying background: apparently the girl is possessed by a demonic force. At the time, the film drew attention for its plot full of paranormal phenomena and suspense.
The film is currently available on streaming platforms such as Netflix and Prime Video. It stars figures such as María Evoli, Fernando Becerril, Flavio Medina, Gabriela de la Garza, Natasha Cubría, and Fernando Becerril.
How is Pope Leo XIV? What is his state of health?
During the Angelus prayer last Sunday, Leo XIV announced that he would be admitted “in the next few days” for a nodule found in a lung. According to medical reports, it was advisable to intervene to remove it.
“Recently, during some check-ups, the doctors detected a nodule located in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well localized,” he explained.
The leader of the Catholic Church entered the Gemelli hospital to undergo the procedure this Tuesday afternoon, Rome time. The Vatican announced that, hours after his admission, the surgery was a success.
Federico Venuta, professor and head of the thoracic surgery service at the Policlinico Umberto hospital in Rome, detailed to the AFP that the pope's nodule can “correspond to a whole series of benign, inflammatory, infectious, autoimmune, or congenital lesions, or even malignant ones”.
The Vatican noted that the nodule was identified during routine exams without previous symptoms.
Experts point out that nodules are not always cancerous, although it can be an early sign of lung cancer.
