Not everything was celebration and joy following the Mexican National Team's triumph over Ecuador in Mexico City. According to reports from the capital's health authorities and confirmation by the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, three people died in the vicinity of Avenida Reforma. What happened to them?
The CDMX Ministry of Health reported the death of three people during the festivities in the Cuauhtémoc borough. As announced, in the early hours of July 1, two deaths were confirmed after resuscitation maneuvers were applied to a 44-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman.
Civil Protection personnel, including paramedics, carried out their resuscitation protocol after finding them unconscious in the area of Hamburgo and Lancaster; shortly after, their deaths were confirmed due to asphyxiation.
Moments later, Mexico City Health reported a third death on Berna Street, in the Juárez neighborhood of the Cuauhtémoc borough. As in the previous cases, emergency personnel applied resuscitation protocols to a 48-year-old woman without success; the official report indicates that she also died of asphyxiation.

In a statement, the Head of Government lamented what happened and offered support to the families of the deceased.

"From the @GobCDMX we are in contact with their families to provide them with all the necessary support and accompaniment. With a heavy heart, I send a hug and my sincerest condolences to their loved ones. We reiterate the call to always celebrate with responsibility, care, and empathy," she added.
Thousands of Mexicans gathered on the outskirts of the Historic Center, the Monument to the Revolution, Avenida Reforma, the Angel of Independence, the Torre del Caballito, and surrounding streets to support the Mexican National Team during their round of 16 match against Ecuador.
Neither the rain nor the crowds dampened the World Cup festivities. Although there is no official data yet, it is estimated that there were at least one million fans in the aforementioned areas.
