Mexico registered several earthquakes during the early hours of this Wednesday, August 12, 2026, according to the report from the National Seismological Service (SSN).

During the early hours of this Wednesday, the SSN reported several earthquakes in different parts of the country. A total of 39 before 10 a.m. The movement with the highest magnitude recorded so far was 4.5.
The earthquake occurred at 5:56:30, 85 kilometers southwest of Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, and had a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the SSN report.
This earthquake did not activate the seismic alert in Mexico City.

The Second National Drill 2026 will take place on Saturday, September 19, at 11:00, Central Mexico time.
According to Laura Velázquez Alzúa, head of the National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC), this exercise aims to "strengthen the preparation, coordination, and response capacity of the three levels of government... as well as promote the active participation of society to reduce disaster risks."
The drill will contemplate five seismic hypotheses, including a 7.7 magnitude scenario in Puebla.
It was also announced that President Claudia Sheinbaum will participate in the National Flag raising ceremony at the Zócalo in Mexico City, as part of the tribute to the victims of the earthquakes that occurred in 1985 and 2017.
