U.S. President Donald Trump admitted on Wednesday that the war he started against Iran last February is behind the overwhelming due to the increase it caused in fuel prices, although he asserted that if he had to choose again, he would attack the Islamic Republic once more.

When asked about the criticisms leveled this Wednesday by his vice president, JD Vance, against the Iran war, Trump considered that what he said "is, to a large extent, true," because the conflict "caused a slight increase in the price of gasoline."

"But, at the same time, if I had to do it again, I would do it again, because, in the long run, it is the only solution. Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon," added the Republican, who on February 28 gave the order to carry out joint attacks with Israel that sparked a conflict that has undermined commercial traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and remains open eight months later.

Trump's words, spoken during an event to unveil the renovations of the White House Ballroom, come shortly after Vance blamed the unpopular Iran war on social media for the crushing Republican defeat in Tuesday's elections.

"The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said it last night," wrote Vance in a long post on X, hours after forecasts confirmed large Democratic majorities in the Senate and the House of Representatives, which complicates the two years remaining in Trump's term.
