The announcement of Pepe Aguilar as one of the guest artists for Rodeo Houston 2026 is already causing anger and backlash among internet users, to the point that a petition has been started to remove him from the event because they feel he does not represent the values of Texas.
Although it was expected that the disappointment of Rodeo Houston 2026 fans would remain online, some took it further by launching a petition on Change.org to remove Pepe Aguilar from this year's lineup.
The creator of the petition, Brittney Torres, argued that hiring Ángela Aguilar's father "for the Houston Rodeo 2026 is not appropriate. His music simply does not connect as well with the current audience, and with the recent controversies surrounding him, many people feel that he no longer represents the energy or the values of our city."
She asserted that artists invited to one of the most important cultural events in the country should reflect the identity of Houston.
"Choosing artists who feel outdated or disconnected from the community takes away from what makes this event so special."
In addition, others expressed their rejection of the Pepe Aguilar concert on social media, recalling that in the singer's recent performances, he has invited his children, Ángela and Leonardo, to the stage, and even his son-in-law, Christian Nodal, creating further annoyance.
"What a disappointment, with so many other options. We were here hoping for Duelo, Grupo Frontera, or Bobby Pulido. And I think that if he's going to bring his daughter and Nodal..." reads one of the reactions.
Others insisted that the organizers of Rodeo Houston, which combines Texas livestock tradition with professional rodeo competitions framed by major concerts, should have brought in other artists.
"Pepe Aguilar, what a disappointment. We were waiting for the rodeo to see Grupo Frontera, Grupo Duelo, Intocable, or Bobby Pulido, but they bring us Pepe Aguilar!" wrote internet user Angela Medina.
