Maribel Guardia showed solidarity with Fátima Bosch after the Thai businessman and director of Miss Universe Thailand, Nawat Itsaragrisil, revealed that he is seeking to have the current Miss Universe arrested for alleged defamation.
In an interview with the press, Maribel Guardia lashed out at the Thai businessman and called him an “idiot”.

Maribel Guardia, who represented Costa Rica in Miss Universe 1978, spoke about the controversy between the current Miss Universe, Mexico's Fátima Bosch, and Nawat Itsaragrisil.
The actress pointed out that it was rude, brazen, disrespectful, and humiliating for the businessman to have sued the woman from Tabasco.
Furthermore, Guardia expressed that it was due to a cultural issue and that Nawat Itsaragrisil was an “idiot” for what he was doing to Fátima Bosch. She also added that all women were standing with her.
“What is happening with Fátima is incredible because the rudeness of this man, the brazenness, the lack of respect, the humiliation, you can see it comes from a culture where it is normal... openly, because men often abuse their power, but there it is shameless, right? I mean, there is a very strong cultural issue there, how sad that he still dares to sue her, he is an idiot in my opinion and obviously I believe that all women are with Fátima”.
What does Nawat Itsaragrisil accuse Fátima Bosch of?
Through Instagram, the Thai businessman shared a photo of the alleged court file in the case against Fátima Bosch and claimed that the woman from Tabasco was “subject to an expedited process for the issuance of an arrest warrant” due to a case of “defamation, false accusations, and dissemination of false information”.
Although the complaint is not recent, it was filed in November 2025, days before Fátima Bosch won the pageant and was crowned Miss Universe.
The Thai businessman argued that Fátima misrepresented the incident of November 4, 2005, and continued to defame him to the press. As he explained, what he said was misinterpreted, as he claimed he never called the woman from Tabasco “stupid”.
What did Fátima Bosch respond to Nawat Itsaragrisil?
After Nawat Itsaragrisil’s post, Fátima Bosch assured on her social media that, months after the incident, she continued to be intimidated by the Thai businessman, but that she did not regret having defended her position that day.
Fátima added that everyone saw what happened that day, as it had been recorded, so there was nothing more to say.
