Eugenio Derbez is in the middle of a controversy after expressing his "hatred" for the English while appearing on James Corden's show, following the Mexican National Team's loss to England in the round of 16. What did he say?
The Mexican comedian is the talk of social media after asking James Corden to avoid speaking to him on his show due to his annoyance with the English for defeating Mexico 3-2 last Sunday at the Estadio Azteca.

"Viva Mexico, viva Mexico," Eugenio declared upon entering the set of James Corden's "After Hours" show on Fox Sports, wearing a Mexican National Team jersey.
"Don't do it," Derbez replied to the greetings from James and his guests. "James, stop, don't do it. Don't even talk to me, okay?" he said, to which Corden responded: "That's going to be a bit difficult."

"After what England did to Mexico yesterday, I don't want to talk to you, or you. No, honestly... I hate you guys, all of you. I hate you, I don't want to talk to any English person... Don't touch me," he said as Corden approached him.
"I hate all English people, except Paul McCartney—I'm a big fan—but the rest of you..." he continued.
"What about Elton John?" Corden asked, to which Derbez replied: "I hate Elton John, Mick Jagger, I hate Mr. Bean, I even hate Mary Poppins today; I'm angry at Peppa Pig... Yes, I hate Peppa Pig," he pointed out.
Eugenio didn't just refer to these famous British pop culture figures, but also involved the monarchy in his rant, highlighting that he hates the King and his heirs, William and Kate. Furthermore, the comedian noted that he preferred Meghan Markle over the princes.
"Don't make me mention the royals. I hate King Charles, Prince William, and Kate. In fact, James, from now on, officially, I'm in 'Meghan Markle mode,'" he noted, leaving Corden speechless and in an awkward position.
After the video went viral, Eugenio Derbez became the target of criticism from both the English themselves and Mexican followers, who distanced themselves from his comments, saying he does not represent Mexicans and that there is no hatred towards England.
Other users defended Eugenio, pointing out that he didn't mean it and that his routine upon entering the show was scripted, just like his jokes.
"Those jokes are written for the show; Eugenio wasn't improvising, and it's most likely someone else wrote them. Don't criticize him," a user defended on TikTok. "It was fine at the beginning and then it was too much. I understand it's the show's format, but I don't know, Rick. I don't know who wrote the dialogue, but they should have made it shorter, that's what I think," another commented.
Meanwhile, English netizens dismissed him, saying they didn't care about the comments of an "unknown actor" who just "seeks attention" at the expense of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham's team. They even commented that he was bitter because Mexico lost to an English football powerhouse.
"Who is that?", "I've never heard of him", "He still hasn't gotten over the loss", "Was that supposed to be funny?", "His humor is as bad as Mexico's football," they noted.
