The Mexican National Team continues to be the talk of the town both on and off the field during the 2026 World Cup. After advancing to the round of 16 with four consecutive victories without conceding a goal, El Tri was at the center of another viral moment on social media thanks to a peculiar celebration inspired by Norway's traditional Viking Row. While an Argentine content creator criticized the celebration, Erling Haaland reacted in a way that surprised Mexican fans.

¿Por qué México celebró con el remo vikingo?
In a video shared on goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa's Instagram, players from the Mexican National Team can be seen celebrating their victory over Ecuador wearing masks of Erling Haaland, Norway's striker and biggest star, while recreating the traditional 'Viking Row'.
This celebration, popularized by Norwegian fans, consists of sitting on the ground, one behind the other, and leaning the body forward and backward as if rowing a Viking longboat, while shouting "HU!" in unison. The chant is usually accompanied by drums.
The video quickly went viral on social media. While some users interpreted it as a fun tribute to Norway and Haaland, others felt that the Mexican National Team was copying a celebration that does not belong to them.
Among the comments, the following stand out:
- "¿Cómo se van a apropiar de otra cultura? Ustedes son un chiste".
- "Amigo, son 400 millones y no se les ocurre algo propio".
- "Necesito que para el siguiente inviten a Haaland. Siento que el bro sí entendería la vibra".
- "Esta gente comentando y quejándose no se sabe la de cotorrear. Aprendan a reírse de las cosas y no se tomen todo tan a pecho".
Creador argentino critica el festejo vikingo del Tri
An Argentine content creator on TikTok also joined the criticism, calling the Mexican National Team's celebration "a total embarrassment."
"And the players doing the Viking row. This Mexican celebration is an embarrassment. You don't even know how to celebrate. If you put on a Mexican hat and go 'Arriba, arriba! Ándale, ándale! Let's go Mexico!', that is yours. But copying the Norwegian celebration speaks to the lack of personality you have as a fan."
Users pointed out in the comments that this is not the first time this content creator has criticized El Tri.
"Sir, a question... is your 'program' called 'Everything About Mexico', or why can't you let them go?", wrote one user.
¿Qué dijo Erling Haaland sobre el festejo del Tri?
Far from being annoyed by the celebration, Erling Haaland reacted with humor and surprised Mexican fans.
The Norwegian striker shared the video on his Instagram stories and wrote a brief message accompanied by a laughing emoji:
"Hello, how are you? @miseleccionmx 🤣"
The post generated positive reactions among El Tri followers, who interpreted the gesture as a sign that Haaland did not take the tribute as an insult, but rather took it with humor.
