Mexican driver Sergio "Checo" Perez is in Northamptonshire, England, to compete in the 2026 British Grand Prix as a driver for the Cadillac team. During his stay, the English press took the opportunity to ask him about the upcoming duel between Mexico and England in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup and even tried to obtain information about the potential weaknesses of El Tri. However, the driver's response surprised everyone.
In his statements, he also spoke about the Mexican fans and the atmosphere he expects for this Sunday's match.
¿Qué consejo le dio Checo Pérez a Inglaterra antes de enfrentar a México?
One of the topics that has drawn the most attention in England is the altitude of Mexico City, the host of the match. Days earlier, coach Thomas Tuchel asserted that playing in the Mexican capital will represent a great disadvantage for his team.
When asked about this topic, Checo Perez recommended that the English team arrive well in advance to acclimate to the city's conditions.
"Arrive days before, many days, like a week in advance. So yes, don't underestimate that because it can be quite difficult to breathe."
Checo Pérez responde a la preocupación de Inglaterra por la afición mexicana
After some El Tri fans went to the hotel where the Ecuadorian national team was staying and kept players awake with chants, drums, fireworks, and honking, concern arose in England that a similar situation could happen. It was even reported that the team was trying to keep the location of its hotel a secret.
When they asked Checo Perez if he knew of a "super secret" hotel to avoid Mexican fans, he responded with humor:
"No."
He then explained that the visitors would be well received by the Mexican fans.
"The truth is, Mexicans are very kind and they will be very happy to host them. And we are looking forward to the English having a good time in our country. Just for the fans, not for the footballers," he finished with a laugh.

Journalists also tried to get the driver to reveal if any of his friends within the Mexican National Team had spoken to him about possible weaknesses of Javier Aguirre's team ahead of the match against England.
Between laughs, Checo assured that El Tri had not yet shown any weaknesses in the tournament, although he acknowledged the quality of the English squad and anticipated a very complicated match.
"Well, for now we haven't seen any because we haven't conceded any goals. But well, we haven't played against a team like England, so I can't wait. It's going to be a great game. I was watching England yesterday and well, they made it. I think it's going to be a great game on Sunday."
Let us remember that this match will be decisive for El Tri, as they are playing for a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
