Liam Gallagher angered Mexican fans after posting a series of comments in which he not only claimed that England would thrash Mexico next Sunday, but also mocked Juan Gabriel, a situation that caused hundreds of social media users to turn against him. What did the Oasis vocalist say about the 'Divo de Juárez'? We tell you everything.
The Mexico vs. England match started to heat up, and fans from both countries have begun to defend their teams and show what each is made of. Ahead of the match to be held at the Estadio Ciudad de México on July 5, English fans have been divided; while some point out that the game will be difficult for England due to the capital's altitude, others asserted that the 'Three Lions' team will be superior and will win easily.
One of the fans who believes that the match against Mexico will be easy is Liam Gallagher, who first claimed that England would score five goals against Mexico. Later, in response to this comment, a user retweeted the message from Noel Gallagher's brother with the following: 'Juan Gabriel could have done Wonderwall with his eyes closed, but Oasis could never do this,' words which were accompanied by a video of the 'Divo' performing 'Hasta que te conocí'.
Immediately afterward, Liam responded mockingly: 'I sing it in the shower, the first thing I do every morning,' to which a user replied: 'I thought you didn't speak Mexican,' and Gallagher said ironically: 'No, I don't sing it in Japanese.'
Subsequently, the user replied: 'Don't start a fight, you know we Mexicans love you, dear.' 'I'm not starting a fight,' the Wonderwall singer assured. However, this was not the only comment the famous Brit replied to, as he spent several hours of his time posting messages about Sunday's match and even adjusted the score, saying that due to the climate (heat) and the altitude, it would surely end 3-0 in favor of England.
Thousands of internet users lashed out at Liam Gallagher, assuring him he would regret his words: 'Innocent poor friend, he doesn't know he's going to suffer,' 'Not with my Juanga, dog,' 'Go fight with your brother already,' and 'No wonder your brother couldn't stand you,' were some of the comments.
Why did it cause so much anger? Juan Gabriel is considered one of the most important artists in the history of Spanish-language music. His legacy transcends generations and borders thanks to hundreds of compositions, memorable concerts, and a career that shaped the popular culture of Mexico and Latin America.
