The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced that the Rita Cetina Scholarship will undergo an important change for 2026, consisting of an extra support of $2,500 pesos that will be given to students to help with the purchase of school supplies and uniforms. The Rita Cetina Scholarship will soon open registration for all children and youth who do not yet have this financial support, which provides $1,900 pesos every two months. Currently, only secondary school students receive this money; however, elementary school students will be able to register in the coming weeks, as reported by Mario Delgado, head of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP).

Likewise, both Delgado and Sheinbaum announced that an additional payment will be delivered to scholarship recipients in 2026 to help with the purchase of school supplies and uniforms, items that can be quite expensive.
During the morning press conference on January 5, the president stated: "Now there is a unique special scholarship for supplies and uniforms for all boys and girls (...) and the Gertrudis Bocanegra scholarship, which is currently for young people in Michoacán who are studying in higher education, for transportation. The goal is to gradually grow this scholarship for higher education students."

The additional support of $2,500 pesos will be delivered to elementary school students (from first to sixth grade) who are just about to join the Rita Cetina Scholarship, as registration is scheduled for the coming weeks.
In a statement, the SEP specified that the "Universal Rita Cetina Scholarship will be expanded to public elementary education, from first to sixth grade, with an additional annual support of 2,500 pesos per student for supplies and uniforms, with registration and the start of information assemblies beginning in February."
