U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down from her position "at the end of the month" to dedicate time to her family.
Leavitt, who just had her second child, stated on social media that the decision was "bittersweet," and affirmed she felt "incredibly grateful" to the president.
"Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be leaving her position at the end of the month to be able to spend more time with her beautiful young children and family," Trump stated on his Truth Social network.
The president added that Leavitt will now become one of his "top external advisors and an influential voice within the Republican Party."
In May, Leavitt announced the birth of her daughter Viviana, just days after delaying her maternity leave following an alleged assassination attempt against Trump during the White House Correspondents' Dinner in April.
Leavitt, 28, became the youngest person ever to serve as a U.S. presidential spokesperson, a role with high public exposure.
In that position, she spearheaded an aggressive communication strategy, featuring attacks on traditional media and giving more space to influencers and content creators aligned with the MAGA (Make America Great Again, Donald Trump's movement) ideology.
