Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed the recent call from the leaders of Finland and Norway this Thursday and assured that Russia does not want a war with Europe, but is prepared if they initiate one against it.

"We support, and we have always said so, any measure aimed at restoring full and genuine relations with European countries," said the Kremlin chief when commenting on his telephone conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Putin, who made this statement at a press conference at the end of the third Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, recalled that the call was made at the initiative of the European leaders, who indicated, however, that they are not speaking on behalf of the Twenty-Seven.

"I know there was some criticism towards them, but it is not for us to judge whether it is right or wrong (to call Moscow). I think it is right," he said.

Putin stated that not everyone in Europe wants to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, but there are many who talk about the possibility of the start of a war by 2030.

"Many just talk about preparing for war (with Russia) in 2030. Is this right? No," he asserted.

He immediately added that Russia is prepared, but does not want any war with Europe.

And if anyone wants it, he continued, "let them prepare themselves" since "if things go that far, there will be no winners" in such an armed conflict. "Let them not forget that," he emphasized.
