Do you set the clock forward or back? The United States, part of Mexico, and Canada will have to adjust their analog clocks due to the winter time change. When will it be and who needs to do it? Here is what you need to know.
In most of Mexico, the time change has been discontinued since 2022 following modifications made to the Time Zone Law promoted by then-President Andrés Manuel López Obrador; now, only a few municipalities apply the adjustments.
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, daylight saving time ends in northern Mexico, the United States, and certain regions of Canada. In all places where the measure applies, clocks must be set back one hour at 2 a.m.

Will there be a time change at the border in Mexico?
In Mexico, the seasonal border time will end on Sunday, November 1, also at 2 a.m., and clocks must be set back one hour only in the areas covered by the Time Zone Law. The provision covers these five entities and these municipalities:
Once the time is set back, people living in these regions will gain an extra hour of sleep.
In which places in the United States does the time change?
In the United States, the adjustment will be made in most of the territory, including New York, California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, and New Jersey. However, Hawaii and most of Arizona do not change their clocks.
Where will the time be changed in Canada?
This year there will be important changes in Canada because several regions have abandoned seasonal adjustments and will maintain a permanent time. British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories will not set their clocks back on November 1.
In northwestern Ontario, communities located west of the 90th meridian will also stop making the adjustment to maintain the same time throughout the year.
Does the time change in Mexico City and Sonora?
No. In Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and most of the country, the clock is not modified on November 1. Sonora also does not perform the seasonal change, so people living there should keep their usual time.
