President Claudia Sheinbaum responded this Thursday to Argentine journalist Eduardo Feinmann, who days ago stirred controversy with his comments about Mexico and subsequently offered an apology by claiming that his criticisms were directed solely at soccer.
During her morning conference at the National Palace, the president made it clear that the communicator's statements remain offensive because they involved the Mexican National Team, a symbol that, she said, deserves respect.

"He justifies himself by saying he only talked about soccer. Meaning he was talking about the National Team. He says: 'It's not the entire people of Mexico, only soccer.' Well, it offends us just the same because no one should offend the National Team, no one," the president expressed, according to reports from EL UNIVERSAL.com.mx
Sheinbaum critica las declaraciones de Eduardo Feinmann
The President noted that, although the Argentine journalist tried to explain his words, she believes his statements reflect a xenophobic attitude.
"This is the last time I will speak about it, because later he said other slanders, but I am not going to get into it anymore because it speaks for itself regarding xenophobia," she stated.
Sheinbaum added that she will not permit any type of offense toward Mexico or its sports representation, even if it is presented as a joke.
"I will not allow any offense, even if it were a joke, of that category," she maintained.
¿Qué dijo Eduardo Feinmann sobre México?
The controversy began when Eduardo Feinmann made comments that were interpreted as offensive toward Mexicans. Following the reaction his statements provoked, the journalist asserted that his words were directed only at the soccer sphere and not at the people of Mexico.
However, the explanation was not enough to settle the controversy, as the Mexican government responded publicly.
