Shakira provided the atmosphere during the halftime show of the 2026 World Cup final, held at East Rutherford Stadium in New Jersey, featuring a battle of giants between Spain and Argentina.
The Colombian singer took to the field singing Dai Dai, the official song of the tournament, which she performs with Burna Boy. From the moment she appeared on screen, social media was flooded with comments about her performance, but mainly about her appearance. Why?
Internet users pointed out that the Shakira who sang at the final is indeed the original and that she put in the effort to give a good show, compared to what was done during the opening of the 2026 World Cup at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City last June 11.
It is worth remembering that at the time, the Colombian singer generated controversy on the internet due to conspiracy theories claiming that she was not the original and that a double had been sent to the stage because she did not want to sing.

“That woman was not Shakira, they can't fool me,” “The worst part is that it was the Temu Shakira,” “Is that Shakira? Is that her? She doesn’t look like Shakira, am I hallucinating?” said users on TikTok and X at that time.
Shakira sang at the final in a yellow and pink outfit, which nodded to the attire used in South Africa 2010, with a fringed skirt and a bralette. Unlike the opening ceremony, the celebrity left her face uncovered, without glasses and with her hair pulled back.
Comments like the following appeared on social media after her performance:
“Shakira with the same choreography and outfit from South Africa”
“That Shakira performance was better than the opening one, she looked beautiful”
“That really was Shakira”
“Shakira has more World Cups than her ex Piqué”
“Now Shakira wanted to work and didn't send her double”
“That wasn't Shakibecca, it was the real one”
“Shakira and BTS were the best at halftime”
Shakira returned to be the star of a World Cup for the fourth time. The first time she had a leading role as a singer in a sporting event was in Germany 2006 with the song Hips Don’t Lie; she was later invited for South Africa 2010 to sing Waka Waka. It is worth remembering that it was at this World Cup that she met Gerard Piqué, who was her partner from then until 2022, when they separated due to an alleged infidelity.
The Colombian returned to a World Cup in Brazil 2014 with the song La La La; finally, she returned to a tournament in 2026 with the song Dai Dai for the competition held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Before the Spain vs. Argentina match, Shakira said she was supporting Lionel Messi's team even though her children are Spanish by birth.
“My children are Spanish... but I am a friend of Messi (...) I am very proud of everything he has achieved,” she noted, praising the South American player.
Regarding these comments, it was reported that Gerard Piqué attended the final with his girlfriend Clara Chía, the woman with whom Piqué allegedly cheated on Shakira for months before they separated.
