The death of Jorge Messi, father and representative of Lionel Messi, sparked a wave of messages of support in the football world, including one especially significant one: Cristiano Ronaldo dedicated some words of comfort to the Argentine after sharing a farewell letter on social media.
“A big hug to you and your loved ones in these difficult times, Leo. Stay strong,” wrote the Portuguese star, indirectly recalling the pain he felt himself after losing his own father, José Dinis Aveiro.
In addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, figures such as Tom Brady and David Beckham also left messages of support for the footballer; Beckham wrote: "We are with you and your family, Leo, always."
The messages from his colleagues come after Messi kept his feelings and mourning private following the loss of his father a few days ago in Rosario, Argentina. On social media, he shared a letter dedicated to his father, in which he remembered him and reflected on their life together.
“I love you, Dad,” he wrote in the Instagram post alongside a photograph with his father. The loss hit the footballer deeply, as he said, and he admitted that he still hasn't managed to process his death.

“Dad, I still can't believe you're gone. I still haven't processed it, or rather, I don't want to accept it. It is very difficult for me to imagine that I will never see you again, that I will never talk to you again. I know you were suffering and that this is for the best, but you left too soon. We still had so much to enjoy together,” the letter reads.
In the same text, he left open a disturbing doubt about his future in football now that Jorge Messi is no longer here: “I don't know what I will do without you, I don't know how to carry on. I only played football and now I highly doubt that I can continue doing it for much longer. You were by my side from the beginning, we were about to finish. Why couldn't you hold on a little longer and we could have finished together?”
The player pointed out that it was his father who convinced him to play one more World Cup, even though it was said that the Qatar World Cup was the last of his career. After leaving to play with the Argentine national team, Jorge Messi's health deteriorated drastically.
“You kept asking me to play in the last World Cup, and just a few days before it started, you got worse. It was the first time you weren't going to participate in a tournament, but Mom kept telling me that you would improve and would be well enough to travel. I told you that we would reach the final so you could travel,” he wrote.
He added that he had hope that he could travel to the United States to witness the final between Argentina and Spain or at least bring him the cup: “Every time a match ended, I would wait and miss your message. That was when I realized the situation was really serious. Even so, I couldn't stop thinking about getting as far as possible, to give you time so you could watch a match. We reached the final. And you couldn't be there. I wanted to win it to bring it to you and show you a new one. I couldn't, my legs couldn't take it anymore. This time I tried to overcome my physical limitations, but I couldn't. I never managed to feel well.”
The relationship between Lionel Messi and Jorge Messi went much further than that of father and son. Jorge was by his side from the very first steps of his career and subsequently became his representative, overseeing a good portion of the Argentine star's business and professional decisions, mainly after his arrival in Barcelona.
Jorge's illness had already begun to emotionally affect Messi during the World Cup. After Argentina's triumph over Algeria, the footballer burst into tears and later admitted that he was going through a complicated family situation.
Jorge had suffered a medical episode at his home in January 2026 and was hospitalized, although the family decided to keep the diagnosis confidential. In June 2026, rumors circulated that he had passed away; this information was refuted.
