Egypt's national team coach, Hossam Hassan, denounced unfair refereeing on Tuesday following his team's elimination by Argentina in the World Cup round of 16, asserting that his squad deserved the victory despite the 3-2 loss in Atlanta.

"We have suffered an injustice," Hassan declared in a press conference following the match, in which Argentina came back from two goals down.

"We played better with the ball. We outperformed the reigning champions in every aspect. However, the result was influenced by internal factors, both on the pitch and before the match," the Egyptian coach stated.

"It seems that pressure was exerted on the referee by the Argentine team. This was the result," he added.

Hassan criticized the VAR's performance for failing to signal a penalty for Egypt and for the annulment of a second goal for the Africans.

The coach also questioned the match time, held at noon, and stated that whoever made that decision "must be someone who has never played football."

The coach closed his remarks by asserting the pride of representing the Arab world: "I am proud to be Arab, of the Arab world (...) but we did not receive the treatment we deserved."
