Comments regarding the Mexico vs. England match have been mixed on social media internationally. Some are celebrating the capabilities of the Mexican National Team and the battle they gave the English, while others are criticizing their play and mocking them for being eliminated in the Round of 16.
Argentine commentators have been relentless in their criticism of the Tri and even the Mexican fans, mocking the celebrations and the support shown to the Mexican players during their run in the World Cup, as well as their dream of winning the Cup.

Daniel Fava, an Argentine commentator and content creator, exploded against the Mexican National Team and its fans; here is what the controversial figure said about Mexico.
“I have to speak to you, Mexican, because you’re already gone, you’ve already left the World Cup. Did you see that you really believed it? What? Did you buy into the story, Mexican, that you were going to be world champion? You even proved me right because I thought you were going to win this game. Since you had the helping hand of playing at home in Mexico City, in the altitude of Mexico City, I thought you were going to cook England, but you couldn't handle the heat, Mexican,” Fava questioned on his social media.
“You bought into the dream, you were the dream for a little while, but then you woke up and faced reality: you are such a tiny little team,” he pointed out, adding that Mexico could only win the World Cup with good soccer and “guts,” something that Javier Aguirre’s team lacks and that no other national team has had over the years: “This Mexican National Team, throughout history, has shown that what they lack is guts.”
Fava had already generated controversy by mocking the Mexican fans and their celebrations at the Angel of Independence in Mexico City and the national team’s performance in the match against South Korea.
At the time, he said that Mexican soccer is “a disgrace” and that Mexicans experienced soccer “without desire, without passion, and without a stadium atmosphere,” in addition to claiming that the players are “enthusiasts” but that they “don't know anything” about the sport.
Despite controversial comments like this one, the Mexico vs. England match left a good taste in the mouths of many fans around the world, and remains one of the best memories for fans of the 2026 World Cup, even though the Mexican National Team lost after arriving at the fifth match undefeated.
After the dramatic match, which ended with a score of 3-2, Argentine commentators acknowledged that this encounter has been the best of the tournament so far, even ahead of the heart-pounding match between Argentina and Cape Verde.
Periodista reconoce que el México vs Inglaterra fue el “mejor partido de la Copa”
“It was the best game of the World Cup (...) It doesn't have to do with the way it was played, it has to do with the drama, the tension, with what was at stake. With the fact that Mexico was the home team,” pointed out Argentine sports commentator and journalist Gastón Edul during a broadcast shared with content creator Davo of Cuscu King.
“With five goals, with controversial refereeing errors, with villains, with celebrations, with anger… The best match, it had everything, from start to finish,” he added.
The journalist acknowledged that the Mexican National Team played better than on other occasions, but it was not enough to reach the quarterfinals: “Mexico leaves this World Cup with honor, with great honor. Mexico, I congratulate you, you had a good World Cup, but you don't end up breaking the wall you have to break, you don't pass the threshold, you don't step up,” he commented.
