After a TikTok edit featuring the song "Aquí no es así" by Caifanes went viral, the Mexican National Team shared a video on its official account with the same track ahead of the Mexico vs. England match, corresponding to the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. The decision triggered a wave of reactions on social media, where thousands of fans are now hoping to hear the song at the Estadio Ciudad de México.
¿Por qué la afición pidió que sonara Caifanes antes del México vs Inglaterra?
Mexican fans have not only shown great support for 'El Tri' but also their creativity through edits featuring songs by both Mexican and international artists.
Days ago, fans turned "Hasta que te conocí" by Juan Gabriel into an anthem for the Mexican National Team by creating edited videos with footage of the players. They even used the trumpet section of the song as a display of pride for the national squad.
The trend of making musical edits continued leading up to the match against England. After the Round of 16 matchup was confirmed, X user @trusovrry requested that 'El Tri' videos use the song "Aquí no es así" by Caifanes.
Following that post, numerous videos began appearing on both X and TikTok. One of the most popular, posted by @elmayoolvera, has already surpassed half a million views and received a comment from the official Mexican National Team account.
"Here is Mexico," the national team account wrote.
La Selección Mexicana usa "Aquí no es así" de Caifanes en un video oficial
The Mexican National Team not only commented on the viral TikTok edit but also published its own version using "Aquí no es así" as background music.
The video shows footage of the players, the Mexican fans, and iconic locations like the Angel of Independence and the Estadio Ciudad de México.
The post also sparked a wave of comments from fans.
"THEY PLAYED CAIFANES YESSS, PLAY IT ON SUNDAY AT THE STADIUM OMGDDD," one user wrote.
The official Mexican National Team account replied and liked the comment:
"WE PLAYED CAIFANES."
¿Qué dice la letra de "Aquí no es así" y por qué conecta con la afición?
The song was written by Alejandro Marcovich, Alfonso André, and Saúl Hernández, members of Caifanes, and was released in October 1994 as the second single from the album El nervio del volcán.
According to a Facebook post by Marcovich, the lyrics were intended to "highlight the difference between the invaders and the conquered here in the Mexican territory."
According to social media users, the segment of "Aquí no es así" fits the match against England not only because of the reference to a place "where the sun doesn't rise," but also because of the country's colonial past.
The most frequently used fragment in the edits says:
"And you come from there"
"Where the sun doesn't rise, where there is no heat"
"Where blood was never sacrificed for a love"
"But here it is not like that."
¿Sonará Caifanes en el Estadio Azteca antes del partido contra Inglaterra?
So far, there is no official confirmation that "Aquí no es así" will play at the Estadio Ciudad de México before the match. However, after the Mexican National Team used the track in an official video and given the great response from fans, many followers hope it will be part of the official pre-match playlist.
Recall that during the Mexico vs. Ecuador match, before the opening whistle, "Hasta que te conocí" by Juan Gabriel was played.
