Following the revelation that the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will face off in Super Bowl LX, where the halftime star will be Bad Bunny, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that ICE agents will be present on the day of the game.

According to TMZ, DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said:

"We will not disclose future operations or discuss personnel. Security at the Super Bowl will involve a full government response conducted in accordance with the United States Constitution," she stated.

She detailed that they have plans to deploy an operation on February 8 in the vicinity of Levis Stadium, located in Santa Clara, California.

She assured that "those who are here legally and are not breaking other laws have nothing to fear."

Tricia McLaughlin asserted that this operation is to guarantee the integrity of the Super Bowl, just as they do "in all major sporting events, including the World Cup."

The confirmation of the presence of ICE agents during Super Bowl LX comes amidst growing tensions in Minnesota, where even U.S. citizens have died during confrontations with federal workers, such as the cases of Renee Good on January 7 and Alex Pretti on Saturday, January 24.

¿Cómo reaccionaron los aficionados por la presencia de ICE en el Super Tazón?

Although this is not the first time that federal ICE agents have been present at a Super Bowl, due to the current climate, football fans have expressed their opposition to the measure on social media.

"No one is safe; even light-skinned or white people have been attacked," says Kenji Tokken.

"ICE agents are incompetent and will definitely put their hands on anyone they deem looks 'perfect' in their eyes," they mentioned on Twitter.

"I would say that most of the Latino community should not go to the Super Bowl for safety reasons," wrote the user identified as Tireke.

Others are demanding that the NFL make a statement after the confirmation of immigration agents' presence on February 8.

"NFL, you better make a strong statement about this. It will be a major disaster and very stressful for the players and everyone involved," states Lisa Grande.

¿Cuándo fue la última vez que agentes del ICE acudieron a un Super Bowl?

According to the federal immigration agency, the last time ICE touted the deployment of its agents on social media was during Super Bowl LVII in 2023.

In that game, the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Kansas City Chiefs on the gridiron.

They also have records of ICE deployments at least nine years ago.
