This year, you can already process your Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) with biometric data completely free of charge at the modules enabled by the National Population Registry (RENAPO) and the state government; this document is emerging as the main national digital identification for 2026.

¿Cómo sacar la CURP biométrica?
The process is simple and requires the presentation of basic documents to validate your identity, such as:
- CURP certificada (Copia).
- Acta de nacimiento (sólo para personas de 0 a 18 años) (Copia).
- Identificación oficial (INE, pasaporte, Cartilla Militar, cédula profesional, credencial escolar, credencial del ISSSTE, credencial del IMSS, credencial expedida por la Secretaría de Bienestar (Original).
¿Es obligatoria la CURP biométrica?
No, the biometric CURP procedure is not mandatory, so anyone who wishes to have it can obtain it.
¿Cuándo entrará en vigencia la CURP biométrica?
The biometric CURP came into effect in 2025, but only in Veracruz, the state where it has been available since last year. For 2026, more entities joined the process and now it is easy to find.
¿Cómo es la captura de datos biométricos?
Once at the module, trained staff will guide you through the collection of your biometric data:
-Fingerprinting: Prints from both hands will be captured.
-Iris capture: The iris of your eyes will be scanned.
-Facial photograph: A recent photograph will be taken for the document.
At the end, it will be explained that the document will be sent to you via email.
Do not forget that the procedure for the new CURP with biometric data is personal and does not require intermediaries or agents. Authorities call on the population not to fall for scams.
