The death toll from the double earthquake that occurred nearly three weeks ago in the northern area of rose to 4,734 on Tuesday, after 173 new fatalities were added, reported the president of the Parliament, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez.

The number of injured and homeless people remains at 16,740 and 17,907, respectively, according to this balance sheet shared on Telegram by the also brother of the acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez.

The updated report also indicated that the number of people in the 107 temporary camps set up in Caracas and surrounding states increased to 20,903.

The government also claimed it has assisted 128,324 families and 33,652 patients, although it did not specify how or when.

Since June 24, there have been 1,275 aftershocks, according to this new report. The most recent one felt occurred on Friday morning when a 3.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded 10 kilometers northeast of Naiguatá, in the state of La Guaira, which was the most affected by the double earthquake.

Friday's aftershock caused panic among the population and led to evacuations in buildings as a precaution.

The government reported over the weekend on the start of a biometric census to determine how many homes are needed, although it estimates there could be 25,000.

As Jorge Rodríguez said on Saturday, the head of state will deliver the first 200 homes this week.

In the midst of this process, the government and an opposition group—led by former congresswoman Dinorah Figuera—have established a work plan that will begin on August 1 for the "strengthening of democracy" and to address "the consequences of the seismic double event."
