Emma Coronel spoke as never before about her relationship with Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán in a new documentary. Among the details she revealed about her marriage to the drug trafficker is how they met and what attracted her to the kingpin: "He is very handsome, interesting, energetic," she said. Additionally, she offered apologies to the victims of organized crime violence, stating, "I am very sorry."

The former beauty queen caused a stir with her statements regarding her marriage to El Chapo Guzmán, who is 32 years her senior. Following the release of the documentary "Married to El Chapo: Emma Coronel Speaks," the trafficker's partner revealed intimate details that have surprised viewers.

Coronel, who was born in California, United States, but lived in Durango, Mexico, from a young age, claimed she had a childhood of hardship: "I lived in my house with my parents, my three brothers. There was no running water, there was no electricity, and of course, there was no television. We were truly cut off from the world."

Due to this context, Emma claimed she did not know who Joaquín Guzmán Loera was when she met him at age 17: "Whenever I say it, they say: 'No, how could you not know? How? He was on TV.' I didn't have a TV! Damn it, well, where was I going to see him?" she asserted.

She also recounted the first interaction she had with the drug trafficker: "I heard there was an important person at the party I was going to. They told me: 'That person wants to dance with you.' Later, that man told me: 'My name is Joaquín.'"

In her revelations, Emma Coronel confessed what caught her attention about the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel: "Of course, he is very handsome, interesting, energetic. That was what drew my attention, what made me interested in being near him."

Finally, Emma related how becoming a media figure affected her: "They have told me that it seems like I don't have feelings, it seems like I don't suffer, like I don't have blood in my veins. But at that time, I felt that, to protect myself, it was appropriate to put on a mask."

She added: "I spent a lot of time with him personally; I have good memories of him. So, I cannot say that Joaquín is bad. I'm not going to sit here and tell you 'Joaquín is bad' because I cannot talk to you about what I have not seen." Recall that Emma Coronel faced a 36-month prison sentence in the United States in 2021.
