At least 27 people have died and 18 have been injured in a fire at a Bangkok bar early Monday morning, according to Thai authorities.
The fire broke out before midnight at a beer hall in Na Padprao, north of the Thai capital, and around 12:26 AM, fire services had managed to bring the blaze under control, according to the Thai public channel Thai PBS.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, later went to the area to oversee the situation and informed the media that 27 people had died and that several injured individuals had been transported to the hospital.
For his part, the governor of Bangkok, Chachachart Sittiphan, informed the media from the scene that in addition to the 27 dead, there were 18 injured, of whom eight were in "serious" condition, reported Thai PBS.
This media outlet noted that authorities are investigating and gathering information to identify the victims.
The governor of Bangkok further stated that authorities are inspecting the site of the accident, especially the interior of the building and the evacuation route, which, according to a preliminary analysis, was obstructed by tables and other decorative objects.
In August 2022, a nightclub fire in Thailand left at least 15 dead and 37 injured, and the owner was charged with negligence and operating the nightlife establishment without a license.
