A few days after the death of her son Mauro Méndez, actress Aylín Mujica gave her first statements in an interview with Verónica Bastos, from Telemundo's Mesa Caliente program, in which she recounted what happened firsthand. What did she say? Here are the details...
According to her account, she was at the Panama airport while talking to her friends about the fatal news; the actress narrated that her world stopped and she could not stop crying, "not understanding" what was happening.
"I couldn't. I was sitting in the airport, talking to my best friends, Laura and Ayeza, saying: 'I don't understand, I don't understand, I don't understand.' My friends were screaming on the phone and I was trying to keep calm, in the middle of the Panama airport, as if I were alone. The world stopped, and there I was in a chair, crying non-stop, without understanding the situation," she said.
With tears in her eyes and in reflection, Aylín shared her thoughts on the death of her firstborn and how unfair it is that he died so young, being "such a sweet, good boy."

"I say, if I were a bad mother, maybe I would deserve it, but I have been a mother above being a woman. For me, it is more important to be a mother than to be a woman. I don't have a partner because I always focused more on my children and my career than on partners," she noted.
Following this first interview, Aylín is being targeted by criticism on social media for using her family tragedy to "sell" her image and for "disrespecting" and "profiting" from her son's memory.
"Not even a week has passed, my God. How people love to profit," "I didn't like at all the thought of a mother doing this not even a week later. Out of respect, she should have waited," "How did this last for her? I have a son his age and it must be an immense, nameless pain to suffer a loss like that," "I don't understand her interview and she hasn't even buried him yet," "Already giving an interview, no. Where is the respect?" commented internet users.
Other followers of the Cuban actress expressed their support, suggesting that perhaps it is her way of handling grief and her pain: "Everyone experiences grief in different ways, stop judging," "She is still in shock," "Perhaps it is her way of dealing with her pain," "Let's stop judging others, let's truly practice empathy, respect, and support for our neighbor, because in the end, we are all brothers."
¿Qué le pasó a Mauro Méndez? ¿De qué murió?
Last Friday, it emerged that Aylín Mujica's eldest son had passed away due to two heart attacks while he was traveling between Miami and Barbados. It has been stated that the DJ and music producer was suffering from pneumonia, which may have caused cardiac complications.
The actress received the news during the filming of her program Top Chef VIP in Colombia. An initial version from journalist Mandy Fridmann claims that Aylín was on a video call with Mauro when he was in the middle of a heart attack on his way to the hospital.
The reporter stated that the paramedics had to end the call due to Mujica's reaction: "They cut the call upon hearing the mother's screams."
