During an interview with the Mexican press regarding the celebrations for the 1,000th performance of the musical '7 veces adiós', the singer pointed out that he does not have to give explanations about his private life after his former 'La Academia' colleague made certain comments.

“There comes a point where one doesn’t even have the saliva left to give explanations for anything. The people who love me don’t need me to explain anything. The people who don’t love me will think whatever they want even if I explain it to them,” replied the 39-year-old singer.
“We don’t mess with anyone, we never speak ill of anyone (...) We understand the game of the entertainment world. There are people who like to play, and there are those of us who don’t. Everything is fine, I am calm (...) Let them say whatever they want, we are here, and everything else is secondary,” he noted.

The singer of 'Recuérdame' spoke on behalf of himself and his wife, Cynthia Rodríguez, with whom he shares his two-year-old son, León.
Prior to these statements, Carlos had spoken indirectly in an interview, noting that he “made music to defend love in every sense and in every manifestation.” His words generated further controversy and were linked to Toñita’s statements.

A few days ago, former 'La Academia' contestant Toñita sparked controversy after speaking about Carlos Rivera and his marriage to Cynthia Rodríguez. During an encounter with the media, the singer responded to rumors questioning Rivera’s private life and sexual preferences, asserting that she does not seek to judge anyone’s private life and using the phrase “what is seen is not judged,” which was interpreted by many as an insinuation about the couple’s relationship.
“I have the same idea as Juan Gabriel, ‘what is seen is not judged’,” she said. “She knows, she knows things, sister, she knows things, and what she knows she will take to the grave, and what I know I will take to the grave… we both know (...) If Carlitos is or isn’t, that’s his business,” were some of the statements she made.
The singer and actress also pointed out that no one has the right to opine on the orientation or personal decisions of others, stating that it is not up to anyone to “out someone from the closet.” However, her statements caused controversy, as some interpreted them as implying she knew private details about Carlos Rivera’s sexuality and his marriage to Cynthia, which has been labeled as a “lavender marriage,” although she later clarified that her comments were taken out of context.
Faced with the controversy, Carlos Rivera responded calmly and made it clear that he will not give explanations about his personal life.
