Brazilian coach Ricardo ‘Tuca Ferretti’ exploded against the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) following the defeat suffered by the Mexican National Team in the round of 16 match against England, stating that Mexican soccer “is in mediocrity.” What else did he say? We tell you below.

In an appearance on the ESPN sports program Futbol Picante, Tuca Ferretti lashed out at the FMF, saying they do not care about Mexican players, children who dream of being professional soccer players, or the quality of the game, affirming that Mexican soccer has serious problems: an excess of foreign players and high-ranking FMF officials conducting business for individual gain.

“The mediocrity we are experiencing in this Mexican soccer, without promotion, with an excess of foreigners. The only thing they don't think about is the Mexican footballer, the generation of Mexican players, the Mexican children who want to play soccer,” noted the former Cruz Azul head coach.

Ferretti pointed out that the federation is more focused on doing business with Mexican soccer, but that does not mean it is supporting national talent and giving them the tools they need to shine before the world.

“Mexican soccer is in a decline. It is truly at its worst moment in the 48 years I have lived in this country,” he added.

Tuca Ferretti explota en contra de Javier Aguirre

In addition to criticizing the soccer industry in Mexico, the Brazilian debated the decisions Javier Aguirre made in the National Team's match against England last Sunday, which they lost, causing them to be eliminated from the 2026 World Cup before advancing to the quarterfinals.

The Brazilian coach said he did not understand the moves Aguirre made during the Mexico vs. England match: he blamed him for the third English goal that knocked Mexico out of the tournament, and also criticized him for not taking advantage of Jarell Quansah's departure, which left the English side with 10 players.

“By putting on three forwards, all three are looking for the same play; the opportunity on the wing and in the small and large box was lost, which is what Sánchez was looking for earlier to be able to have deeper crosses,” he pointed out.

“The crosses were no longer crosses, they were just long balls; no one penetrated to look for depth as they were in the first half (...) After conceding the two goals, Mexico scores, gets back into the match, the first half ends, then the red card happens. So, we have 11 against 10, and the third goal cannot happen; you already have a significant numerical advantage. You have to take advantage!” he noted.
