The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) is preparing the upcoming 2026-2027 school year, with effective class days, long weekends, vacation periods, and official class suspensions applicable throughout the country. Mario Delgado, head of the agency, submitted the proposal for the new school calendar to the Integral Regulatory Governance Platform of the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (Conamer) for preschool, primary, and secondary levels, both public and private schools incorporated into the National Educational System, as well as normal schools, with at least 185 effective school days.

"The regulatory proposal integrates the School Calendar applicable to the entire Mexican Republic for the 2026-2027 school year, for preschool, primary, secondary, and normal education, as well as others for the training of basic education teachers, which is necessary to cover the applicable plans and programs. It must contain a minimum of 185 days and a maximum of 200 effective school days for students," the document notes.

Calendario escolar SEP 2026-2027
According to the draft calendar, the start of classes for the 2026-2027 school year would be August 31, 2026, and it would end on July 9, 2027. Within the calendar, the SEP contemplates nine suspensions of teaching duties, in addition to eight suspensions for the Technical Council:

So far, the calendar is not official, as it must first be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) to enter into force.
Given the expectation regarding when the proposal will be published and whether the marked dates will be the official ones, the SEP is expected to make the calendar official in the coming days, amidst the end of the term on July 15.
