spoke for the first time about the death of her son Mauro Menéndez, known in the music world as MAAHEZ, and revealed the dramatic moments he experienced before his passing a few days ago in Barbados.

The young DJ and producer died after suffering from severe pneumonia, which he initially mistook for a cold, and which led to fatal complications, according to what she recounted in an interview with Verónica Bastos of Mesa Caliente.

“They revived him approximately five times,” the actress detailed through tears as she remembered the final hours of her son’s life. Below, we provide the details of the interview and what occurred surrounding the musician’s passing.

Mauro began feeling ill after traveling from Los Angeles to Miami to visit his maternal grandmother, Aylín recounted. For several days he had symptoms similar to a cold, but he downplayed the state of his health. Even when his mother called him from Colombia, where she was participating in the filming of the program Top Chef VIP, he commented to her that he had intense pain and thought he had only “pinched a nerve.”

The situation worsened before his trip to Barbados. His uncle took him to an emergency room in Miami, but Mauro refused to get out of the car because he insisted on continuing his trip. Hours later, he boarded the plane in a wheelchair and, before takeoff, spoke for the last time with Aylín Mujica.

“I’m at the airport in a wheelchair, but I have to get to Barbados,” Mauro told his mother, without imagining that this would be one of his last messages.

Upon arriving at the island, he was treated at a hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with “very strong pneumonia.” Mauro reassured his mother via a message in which he claimed to feel better after starting antibiotic treatment: “I went to the hospital and they told me I have very strong pneumonia, but they already gave me antibiotics and I feel 100 percent,” he assured.

The following day, while he was with friends on a beach watching the sunset, he had three seizures and was rushed to a hospital, according to what a friend of Mauro told Aylín.

The recounted that the lack of oxygen caused her son to be intubated while he suffered several cardiac arrests: “They revived him approximately five times. The sixth time they called me and the doctor told me: 'We have to make a decision',” she recalled. Desperate to know how her son was and to speak with him, the actress asked them to bring the phone to Mauro’s ear and she pleaded: “Don’t go, Mauro, don’t go.”

The actress and host embarked on an emergency trip to Barbados during the early morning hours and asked that they not inform her if her son passed away while she was on the plane. However, it was Mauro’s father, Osamu Menéndez, who called her during the flight to give her the fatal news.
