Marc Cucurella became one of the greatest figures of the 2026 World Cup thanks to his remarkable participation with the Spanish national team and the feats that led them to the championship; however, few know about his private life and the influence one of his children has on his private life, but above all on his professional one.
Below, we share the story of his autistic son and the focus he places on his family above his career as one of Spain's stars.

El es Mateo, el hijo autista de Cucurella
The Spanish star has three children with his partner Claudia Rodríguez: Mateo, 6; Río, 5; and Bella, 2. Throughout his career, since the children were born, Cucurella has said that his family comes before soccer, even before himself, which is why every decision in his life revolves around each of them.
"I saw on the internet that penguins choose a partner and a family for life. And they stay together forever. That's why I want to remember my family, who always support me in the best and worst moments (...) this celebration is for them," the defender said in an interview during the World Cup.
His firstborn was diagnosed with Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder when he was 3 years old after noticing behaviors unusual for a child his age. While they took him to doctors to find a diagnosis, Cucurella and his family already had suspicions of what was happening and just waited for him to be a little older to confirm it.
"My oldest son was the one who changed all of our lives. When he started preschool, we began to see different things. We would see that in the photos of the children playing, he was always alone," he told in an interview with RTVE.
In numerous interviews the soccer player has given alongside his wife, both have spoken about how complicated it is to deal with the little one and all the times they cannot understand his needs, although he feels proud of him and how they are raising him.
"I have a son with autism; I wish I didn't have a cent and my son were healthy (...) I don't know how we can help him, and those things make me suffer and it is a topic that makes me quite sensitive," the soccer player has said in various interviews and in the documentary he has with his family on Prime Video.
El cabello de Cucurella también tiene que ver con su hijo Mateo
In a recent interview, Marc Cucurella said that his haircut also depends on his son Mateo.
The player pointed out that his son likes to see him with long hair, and for him, it is easier to see and recognize him when he is not close by or when he watches him playing, whether at home or in the covered boxes at the stadiums.
"I let my hair grow because he likes it, and also so that, if one day he forgets me, he can recognize me," he said.
His long, curly hair style was influenced by his mother, who used to let his hair grow so she could recognize him in soccer matches when he was a child.
Aceptó irse al Real Madrid porque le aseguraron escuelas para Mateo
When Real Madrid showed interest in signing him, after Barcelona rejected him and his departure from Chelsea approached, Marc made sure his son had access to special education and everything necessary in Madrid before signing the contract with the club.
In fact, the issue of Mateo's education, health, and care was his priority, beyond the nearly 60 million euros that would be paid for the transfer, a figure that has placed him as one of the most expensive purchases in the team's elite history.
