Eduardo Feinmann, a well-known journalist in Argentina, sparked controversy after lashing out at Mexico and claiming that Mexicans dream of being like Argentines. What did he say and why? Here are the details that are causing a stir in both countries.
After the Mexican National Team lost to England in the round of 16, played at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Argentines expressed their aversion to Mexico and its fans without restraint, including Feinmann, who also expressed his joy at their defeat.
According to the journalist on his news program, he loathes Mexicans and claims that there is envy toward Argentines in various aspects, including in the sports arena, and he mocked Mexican linguistic idioms such as the popular “ahorita” (right now).
“I loathe Mexicans, I loathe them with my soul. They can shove that ‘ahorita’ up their a**, those guys are loathsome. The envy they have for Argentines, not just in soccer, but in everything. They envy us, they want to be like us and they don't have what it takes, especially in soccer; they’re wooden,” he attacked.

His statements during the broadcast were made during a conversation he was having with a colleague about the 2026 World Cup and the preferences both have regarding the teams and their positions in the sporting event.
“So, were you rooting for Norway, England, or Mexico?” they asked him, prompting him to launch his diatribe against Mexicans, especially because of their loss to England last Sunday.
After his comments went viral on social media, the host trended online and generated all kinds of reactions, from some who agreed with him to others who labeled him as “xenophobic” and “racist.”
“Oh, well, we are just so worried about your opinion,” “‘Ahorita’ we aren’t paying attention to corrupt Argentines,” “The difference between Argentina and Mexico is that Mexico's identity does not depend on soccer. For us, losing this match is a sad day, but for you, losing the next matches will mean being left without the only joy you would have in the next four years,” “We don't give a damn about your opinion. The Argentines are the most corrupt team in the World Cup, that’s why no one likes them. So go f*** off somewhere else,” “In Mexico, people don't know or care what Argentina is, does, or doesn't do. They simply don't exist in the collective imagination. And it’s not even bad blood. It’s just like that,” “I have never known a Mexican who wants to be Argentine. You are not role models for anything. The ones who come here are very different from those who stayed behind to suffer hunger and misery,” “Argentines are racist; no one cares about racists because they are the s*** of society,” netizens said.
Eduardo Feinmann afirmó que el narco amenazó a la selección ecuatoriana
This is not the first time Eduardo Feinmann has caused controversy regarding Mexico and its participation in the 2026 World Cup. A few days ago, following Ecuador's elimination, the journalist spread information linking the 'Tricolor' victories to the influence of drug trafficking.
At the time, the news anchor claimed that the Ecuadorian players received direct threats from organized crime to lose the match against Mexico in the round of 32.

“They want Mexico to be World Cup champion at all costs,” he stated after “revealing” that at least five Ecuadorian players were threatened to give the advantage to the Mexican National Team.
“It’s quite complicated because it seems to be confirmed that there were threats from a Mexican cartel against the Ecuadorian players. They contacted five players with specific information about their families in Ecuador and Mexico,” he claimed.
Claudia Sheinbaum le responde al periodista
During her morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the journalist and his xenophobic comments, noting that his rhetoric is “outrageous” and that his stance is consistent with the “Mexican right-wing that does not love the people of Mexico.”
“It’s outrageous (...) He is an ally of the Mexican right. The Mexican right does not love the people of Mexico,” she pointed out.
In this regard, Sheinbaum also addressed the alleged threats against the Ecuadorian team and the link between Feinmann and businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego, who got involved in the matter; a photograph even circulates showing them together in a friendly manner.
